MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A winter storm warning has been issued for the Grand Strand, with snowfall to occur Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday morning. A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Greater Pee Dee region.
We are in the midst of an arctic chill across the area. Very cold weather is anticipated for this week, with highs only in the low to mid 30s and overnight lows in the teens and low twenties.
A storm system will be approaching the area late this afternoon into the evening and overnight hours. Clouds will continue to move into the area, with snow showers expected to break out over the afternoon hours. This could make travel on the evening commute a mess.
Snow will continue Tuesday night. The snow may mix with sleet at times along the coast, but it should be mostly a snow event. Accumulations will be a dusting to an inch, west of Marion. Expect 1-3 inches from Marion towards the coast. The snow will end early Wednesday morning, and it will stay cold in the 30s as skies clear.
There is a small chance for a shower on Wednesday, and if it occurs in the morning, it could be light freezing rain or sleet. It will stay cold on Thursday with highs in the 30s. Temperatures will warm a bit into the weekend with highs in the 40s on Friday, then 50s for the weekend.
