Stopping Iran’s nuclear programme remains the primary goal of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s policy, he said on Thursday.
“Halting the nuclear programme has been – and remains – our chief concern,” Netanyahu told Israeli soldiers.
Preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is the “supreme objective” that he has set for Israel’s armed forces and all security services, Netanyahu said.
He said he could not go into detail about his plans, because that would put achieving the goal in jeopardy. But he said Israel currently has more freedom of action in Iran and, if necessary, could “strike anywhere in Iran.”
Israel views Iran’s nuclear programme as an existential threat, particularly in light of the fact that Iran could potentially use it to develop nuclear weapons.
Prior to Israel’s latest retaliatory strikes against Iran last week, there were concerns that nuclear facilities could also be hit, leading to further escalation.
Israel said that its air force hit “missile manufacturing facilities.”
Netanyahu spoke at an officers school in southern Israel known as Bahad 1.
