Lebanese Parliamentary Speaker Nabih Berri, a close ally of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah militia, has accused Israel of violating the ceasefire which ended the war between his allies and Lebanon’s neighbour to the south.
“The aggressive actions carried out by the Israeli occupation forces in terms of bulldozing homes in the Lebanese border villages in addition to the continuation of airstrikes … represent a flagrant violation of the terms of the ceasefire agreement,” Berri was quoted as saying by his local television network NBN.
“We ask the technical committee that was appointed to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire agreement how it regards these ongoing violations, which have exceeded 54 violations,” Berri was quoted as saying.
Berri, had negotiated the ceasefire on behalf of Hezbollah with US envoy Amos Hochstein.
Israel and Hezbollah have repeatedly accused each other of violations since the ceasefire came into force on Wednesday last week.
Despite the ceasefire, the Israeli military has repeatedly attacked targets from the air and on the ground in Lebanon. Israel spoke of reactions to violations by Hezbollah.
