After our light snowfall event today through Saturday, we will enter into the coldest stretch of weather yet this season and in recent memory. A blast of Arctic air officially descends across the North Country and Upper Valley by Sunday with wicked wind chills.
Gusty northwest winds will start to take a break later Sunday afternoon and that’s why wind chill values will lessen by the second half of Sunday. No matter how you cut it this weekend, though, it’s going to be downright cold. Highs will hover in the teens Saturday with wind chills in the single digits above and below zero.
We’ll tumble into the single digits above and below zero for lows through Sunday morning. The combination of the already very cold air and gusty northwest winds will result in really brutal wind chills first thing Sunday. We’re talking wind chill values in the teens and 20s below zero. We’ll still be feeling like the single digits below zero throughout the afternoon as winds gradually relax.
It’s not until next Monday that we start to see temperatures recover a bit. It will remain below average Monday with more of a seasonable look for our holiday forecasts, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
