ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A rain/snow mix will keep it wet in our overnight. Thursday we have a small window to dry out from this latest area of low pressure. However, there is another one that will drag along with it an Arctic cold frontal that will first bring in some rain and eventually a dusting of snow. But the bigger story is the drastically cold air that the clipper system moves into the Twin Tiers on Friday. Temperatures become more seasonable before the bitterly cold air gets here to start the Christmas weekend.
That slightly warmer high pressure follows into the weekend, at least the first half. Then for the second half look for heavy and dense Arctic air to come back to the Twin Tiers to make the temperatures feel more like the North Pole! Overnight lows in the single digits for us early next week.
Tonight in the low-30s, cloudy with rain and light snow mix. Then mid-to-upper-30s with clouds to start followed by some clearing for Thursday. After that, the cold air finds us and we stair-step down the mercury for the rest of the week and into next.
