An Israeli drone struck a car deep inside southern Lebanon on Friday, killing a Hamas member, Lebanese and Palestinian security sources said.
The head of Hamas security inside the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain al-Hilweh, 40 kilometers south of Beirut, was killed in a drone attack which fired two missiles at his four-wheel drive, a Lebanese security source said.
In a statement, the Palestinian militant organization Hamas mourned Samer al-Haj, who had been killed by a “Zionist raid” in the port city of Sidon.
The Israeli army confirmed the attack and said an aircraft struck an area in Sidon and “eliminated the terrorist Samer Mahmoud al-Haj, a senior commander in the Hamas terrorist organization in Lebanon, who was responsible for advancing terror attacks and projectile launches from Lebanon toward Israeli territory.”
The Israeli army said al-Haj operated as the military forces’ commander in the Ain al-Hilweh camp and was responsible for the recruitment and training of terrorists to attack the state of Israel.
