Four soldiers have been killed in clashes in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israeli army said on Tuesday.
The soldiers, aged between 20 and 22, were reportedly killed by an explosive device in a building in the refugee neighbourhood of Jabalia, according to media reports.
Military sources stated that an officer was also seriously injured in the incident.
During the assault by the Palestinian militant organization Hamas and other extremists from the Gaza Strip on Israel – which resulted in 1,200 deaths and 250 abductions over a year ago – and in the ongoing clashes since then, 776 soldiers have been killed, according to army statements.
The Israeli army has been active in the refugee neighbourhood of Jabalia for weeks.
The humanitarian situation in the embattled area in the northern Gaza Strip is catastrophic, according to eyewitnesses. Tens of thousands of civilians have already fled the region.
Palestinian sources continue to report civilian casualties in the attacks.
